Bands and the Internet
The Internet has done some wonderful things for music. The accessibility of all styles and levels of music - from the newest garage band to the most well known pop group in the world - is greater then its ever been. For a music fan like me, the Internet is a double-edged sword (how's that for a goth image? :)). I can always find something new that I like, and hear bands I would never get to listen to if the radio and record labels controlled everything as in past years; but it also means the choices are endless! There are so MANY bands in the world - hundreds of thousands across the globe. I want to listen to them all, but there's just no way, especially with new bands joining the scene every day. One recommendation I would make to all the musicians out there trying to get noticed - if you have a site on MySpace or one of the other virtual gathering areas, USE IT. It's a powerful promotional tool. Reach out to your fans and respond as much as you can to the comments and emails. As one of those fans I can tell you that when you show a little love, we spread the word that you're out there and that you ROCK, so stay in touch and use the Internet to your advantage!
